Get to know the person before getting him a gift
Before buying any gifts for the guys / men,  take note of the several factors first. What is your relationship with the person? (Are you the wife / relative, the buddy, the co-worker, the student, a good friend etc. ?) What is the occasion that you are giving him a gift? How old is he? What are his hobbies ---does he like to read? And if you know him well enough -- has he expressed a wish for buying something he hasn't yet have? Usually, it is not easy to get a perfect gift if you do not know the person well enough to understand his taste.

What kinds of gifts are suitable?
If you're a casual female friend or co-worker getting your male friend something traditional like a box of cookies, desk accessories items, a mug or even an organizer is quite acceptable. Avoid giving intimate items like undergarments, for it may embarrass the recipient and send the wrong signal. Also try to avoid an overly expensive gift - unless the recipient has been really helpful and kind, and you want to show your gratitude. If you are the mother, the wife, the daughter / son or relative of the recipient, you will have a great choice of gifts to buy. However, do understand the taste of the person you are buying for. Has he got any color preference or material preference, especially if you are getting him a piece of garment. Is he a sentimental person who will not be willing to part with his old possessions? If that is the case - don't get him a wallet, it will probably never be used! What are his hobbies? You may do well getting him something related to his hobbies.
